About Crossness Pumping Station
Opened in 1865, Joseph Bazalgette’s Crossness Pumping Station formed the keystone of London’s revolutionary sewerage system. Its vast rotative beam engines and richly ornamented cast-iron Octagon rank it among the Victorian era’s greatest feats of engineering and design. Saved from dereliction by volunteers, it is now a Grade I listed heritage site.
