"London's most spectacular free festival." – Time Out
Experience extraordinary outdoor performance as Greenwich+Docklands International Festival (GDIF) 2026 returns to Royal Greenwich from 21st August to 6th September, transforming streets, squares, parks and iconic landmarks into spectacular stages for 17 days of world-class theatre, dance, circus and live performance.
Inspired by this year's theme, WE MOVE, the festival explores resilience, connection and the power of communities through an ambitious programme of free outdoor performances that surprise, inspire and bring people together.
A highlight of Royal Greenwich Festivals, GDIF has been delighting audiences since 1996 with bold, large-scale productions in extraordinary public spaces. Recently described by The Guardian as "one of the best free festivals in the UK", with an annual contribution to London's happiness that is "unrivalled", the festival now welcomes more than 60,000 visitors each summer to performances principally across Royal Greenwich and Thamesmead as well as Newham in East London. In 2025, GDIF was also shortlisted for Producer of the Year at The Stage Awards.
Launching on 21st August in Woolwich with 360, an amazing large scale dance experience, the programme is alive with energy and variety from a nod to skate culture and hip hop in Greenwich Park with A Place between Mass and Echoes, a chance to feel part of a live film shoot with Efectos Especiales on the Greenwich Peninsula and a blend of poetry, music, dance and celebration of resilience with The Aunties: The House of Masks in Woolwich.
