The Pacioli Consort - Music of Life and Light

About

The Pacioli Consort is excellent group of young professional singers trained in the chapel choirs of Cambridge University, including The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge.

The Pacioli Consort presents Music of Life and Light, including the sparkling Cantico del Sole by William Walton, Four Part-songs by Edward Elgar, and Weelkes' Thule, the Period of Cosmography, as well as other choral pieces by young contemporary composers.

Come to enjoy choral music from across the ages in the beautiful setting of St Alfege Church in Greenwich, with pieces from the Renaissance to the present day.

To commemorate the 800th anniversary since the death of St Francis of Assisi, we will perform a programme including William Walton's fascinating setting of St Francis' renowned poem, the Canticle of the Sun. Additionally, linking St Francis of Assisi's wonder at the natural world to the critical role Greenwich has historically played in naval and scientific exploration, the Consort will sing Weelkes' Thule, the Period of Cosmography, which celebrates the geological and ecological marvels of the world that were being illuminated during the Renaissance period.

The life and light of the natural world is also compared to that of the inner spiritual world in Elgar's Four Part-songs, through its expressive text-setting and rich harmonies (reminiscent of Parry's celebrated Songs of Farewell).

The programme will include:
Tallis - O Nata Lux
Elgar - Four Part-songs, Op.53
Aleotti - Vidi Speciosam
Weelkes - Thule, the Period of Cosmography
Messiaen - O Sacrum Convivium
Walton - Cantico del Sole
Holst - Nunc Dimittis
