An exclusive evening with the artist behind the artwork on the opening night of Peace Doves.

For millennia, doves have been symbols of hope, peace and love across many cultures.

Taking inspiration from this, Peace Doves is a mass participation artwork from renowned artist and sculptor, Peter Walker.

In this exclusive event, Peter will delve into his artistic approach, the meaning behind the artwork – and how thousands of individual, hand-folded paper doves inscribed with messages of peace come together to create the artwork and transform the Painted Hall in its 300th anniversary year.

About the Artist
Peter Walker is a renowned sculptor and artist based in Staffordshire, with over 25 years of experience creating compelling public artworks and installations. Known for his mastery in bronze and contemporary sculpture, his work is inspired by themes of dynamic form, heritage, and the human spirit.  

His work has been widely exhibited across the UK and internationally, including commissions for cathedrals, civic spaces, and large-scale public art projects regarded highly for captivating new audiences and transforming unusual places and spaces.

Peace Doves
Peace Doves will be on display in the Painted Hall from 20th November 2026 until 7th February 2027.

Made up of individual doves created by members of the public, complete with handwritten messages of peace, this promises to be an art installation like no other.
