In conversation with Patrick Kidd of the Times on Fighter Boy and The Many Lives of Geoffrey Page

About

In conversation with Patrick Kidd of the Times. Geoffrey Page was one of the most remarkable pilots of the Second World War. Shot down in a fireball in the Battle of Britain, his hands were burned to the bone and his face badly charred. Over two years he endured fifteen complex operations under the ground-breaking care of the legendary surgeon, Archibald McIndoe. Despite his horrific injuries Page went on to fly at D-Day, the Battle of Normandy ,and Arnhem.

Using unpublished material from extensive family archives, this compelling book tells the unvarnished story of his extraordinary life, catching with humour and humanity the complexity of his character. It candidly examines his difficulties in post war life, with fifteen further operations to endure in a lifetime of pain. Yet, he was the inspiration behind the beautiful Battle of Britain Memorial at Folkestone.

It was no wonder that at his Memorial Service it was said, 'Even in the context of the Battle of Britain, he was the bravest of the brave'.
