About
Most young people are unaware that the heritage construction and conservation sector is a career option. This Careers Fair highlights the potential for work in this fascinating and extensive sector.
With its famous twin domes designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Old Royal Naval College at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Greenwich is the perfect place to learn more about what a career in this sector can offer.
This event is free to secondary schools in Greenwich and surrounding boroughs. The team are especially keen to welcome K4-5 (age 14-19) students of Product Design, Art, Engineering and History to attend.
Stalls will include the following:
- Stone Masonry
- Wood Carving
- Gilding
- Object Handling
- Historic Building Conservation
- Archaeology
- Landscape Restoration
- Archiving
- Heritage Site Management
- Construction
Some stations will be hands-on, while others will have demonstrations.
Professional tradespeople will be able to answer any questions about their work and career paths.
In addition to working their way around the trades stalls, participants will have guided tours of the Painted Hall, Chapel, and Skittle Alley to get an idea of how so many skilled trades are used in historical buildings.
Drinks and snacks will be provided to keep everyone going, and attendees are welcome to picnic on our lawns or in the colonnades after the session.
NOTE:
Start times are staggered between 10:00am and 10:30am.
The finish time will be around 1:00pm or 2:00pm, but it will be determined by the size of the group.
