Royal Artillery Barracks Field, Woolwich

About

A celebration to show support for the men and women serving in the Armed Forces as well as veterans and cadets.

The Woolwich Armed Forces Day event is the only major event in London this year and is being strongly supported by the Army and by the Commanding Officer Woolwich Station, Lt.Col. Adam Greenfield.

The event will open with a procession of cadets and veterans from central Woolwich [General Gordon Square] at 9.30am up to Barrack Field featuring over 400 military personnel, led by the Band of the Welsh Guards. Veterans will join the parade at Barrack Field for the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony which will be formally opened by Major General Neil Marshall, Royal Borough of Greenwich Mayor Jit Ranabhat and Greenwich & Woolwich MP Matthew Pennycook.

There are many events organised on Barrack Field; there will be a central performance arena which will feature a display by the mounted unit of the Royal Artillery, King’s Troop, a vintage vehicle procession, including blue light service vehicles from ambulances, fire engines and police cars, plus vintage sports cars.

There is also a 5-a-side football tournament for under-16s being run by Charlton Athletic Football Club being held on the south-west corner of the site.

Other entertainment includes a funfair, run by the Showmen’s Guild, plus there is a stage set up to the north of the site, by the Parade Ground, to host many musical performances; concluding with a 16-piece big band taking to the stage to close the event. Also, if you fancy attempting tackling a climbing wall, the Royal Artillery are providing a variety of physical assault courses to enjoy throughout the day for all ages.

There will be an extensive refreshment village on-site with a variety of licensed stalls selling food and alcohol.

A fantastic family day out which also celebrates the historical and continuing military links with Woolwich and the wider borough.

Come on down and enjoy the fun!
