About

Severndroog Castle is an elegantly preserved Gothic tower situated in the delightful gardens of Castle Wood on Shooter’s Hill, one of the highest points in London.

The ‘castle’ was commissioned by Lady James, probably as a memorial to her husband, and designed by architect Richard Jupp in 1784.

Severndroog enjoyed extensive renovations in 2013-2014, when rooms featuring beautiful ornate ceilings and chandeliers were restored to their original state.

On the ground floor, the Severndroog Tea Room serves fresh hot and cold options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and tea, including plenty of choices for children.

Severndroog Castle welcomes groups of 10 or more (whether they be U3A groups, local societies or large family groups) to book tours of the castle and enjoy refreshments in the historic Lady James Room.

The castle requires a minimum group size of 10 (maximum up to 24).

Your visit will include:
- A 30-minute guided tour of the two main rooms, to learn about Lady and Sir William James, the building’s uses over the years and the campaign to save the castle.
- Spectacular panoramic views over London and the surrounding counties from the viewing platform.
- An option for refreshments.

Your visit will take about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of your group. You will have exclusive use of the Lady James Room for your refreshments.

There are two types of Group Visit:
1. Tour only: A guided tour of the Castle with access to the Viewing Platform - £6.00 per person
2. Tour and Cream Tea: with a selection of teas, juices and scone with jam and cream - £13.00 per person

Visits are available Thursdays and Fridays and must be pre-booked.

NOTE: Due to many stairs in the castle, access for people with limited mobility will be difficult.
