About

As part of an ongoing exploration of colour, Turner Prize nominee, Ian Davenport has reimagined the entrance stairwell of The Tide.

Through ‘Poured Staircase’, Davenport has created an immersive river of colour that cascades down The Tide staircase in parallel stripes. Davenport is well known for his abstract paintings, which explore process and materiality. The force of the elements such as gravity are important themes in his artwork. In recent years his work has consisted of carefully poured lines of acrylic paint down a surface, which puddle and pool at the bottom. This technique allows him to explore complex arrangements of line and colour. Over the past ten years he has turned his attention to screenprinting and etching, building up an impressive body of graphic work.

Greenwich Peninsula aims to make art accessible. Visitors are able to walk across the artwork as it flows across this transitional space of The Tide. Creative projects have the power to engage, delight and inspire communities. We believe that art enables people to experience, explore and discover spaces in unexpected and exciting ways, and affects how people interact with and in a space.

Lose yourself in the movement of the colour. You can visit Ian's colourful exhibition on The Tide daily from 8am - 11pm.
