Afternoon tea has been a tradition in England ever since it was introduced by the seventh Duchess of Bedford in 1840, who began having tea and a snack between lunch and dinner to stave off her hunger. She soon started invited friends along to enjoy her newfound habit, and the Afternoon Tea was born.
