Escape The Everyday on your Doorstep

A couple enjoy food at Greenwich Market.

If you haven’t seen much of SE10 for a while or your visiting family and friends, retreat from London’s more hectic parts and spend some in Greenwich. Visit your old favourites, plenty of new haunts and get back to your roots in our unrivalled riverside location.

Morning

Set the tone for your Greenwich day out with a walk around the historic National Maritime Museum and gardens, as the beating heart of maritime Britain. the museum is alive with history and all things naval. Step inside to discover heroic stories of exploration and endeavour that have pioneered our world today just right on your doorstep. With over 2.5 million artefacts including Lord Nelson’s jacket and Turner’s wonderful painting of the Battle of Trafalgar.
If you want to see more works of art, you’re definitely in the right place, it’s time for your royal invitation to the new Tudors to Windsor’s portrait exhibition - come face-to-face with the kings and queens who have shaped British history for over 500 years. The exhibition includes over 150 of the finest portraits from Henry VII to Elizabeth II, across five royal dynasties, bringing together works from the National Portrait Gallery, Royal Museums Greenwich and private collections in a truly landmark collaboration. Once you’ve rubbed shoulders with royalty next up you can explore more of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Afternoon

Fancy exploring the neighbourhood again? Take a guided tour and you’ll soon be refreshed strolling along the riverside walks, for those familiar with the Royal Borough it’s a chance to deepen your knowledge and find out more and what you may have missed, including the iconic and less well-known buildings. For those who are new to Greenwich, a guided walk will fully immerse you the rich history in world-class surroundings, from the Neoclassical to the cutting-edge architecture.
If you’re in need of some light refreshment during your tour you can weave through the food stalls of Greenwich Market or try the much-loved local staple of traditional pie, mash and liquor at Goddard’s of Greenwich. Head for the Tasting Rooms (Open Friday & Saturday) at the Meantime Brewery, you can also enjoy a mini-tour of the brewery and a craft beer tasting session.
