Half-term holiday treats

Keeping 'em busy

Has the half-term holiday already gone on too long? Were you just about to type 'childcatcher' into your Google search box when you came across this blog? It's a tricky old week, isn't it, but if you're short of ideas on how to occupy tiny, sticky hands then we are here to help.

There's lots of entertaining stuff for kids going on in Greenwich this week and most of it's free. Click on the links for times and dates.

The National Maritime Museum, has a full programme of splendid activities including Wish Boat, when you can 'make a red boat and fill it with all your hopes and wishes for the New Year.' I don't have any idea what that means, but it sounds grand. On Friday they're celebrating Chinese New Year with shadow puppet workshops, Chinese New Year storytelling, Chinese New Year performance and much more for all the family.

There's a Fun Family Friday on the way at Discover Greenwich where they've got a glowing glass painting session during the afternoon. That should give you the whole of the next day to get the paint out of their hair before coming back to the Old Royal Naval College on Sunday to meet Samuel Pepys in the Painted Hall.

Or, if you launch yourself at the Royal Observatory on Saturday, you could turn your troublesome terrors into Space Explorers for a while and then treat them to the Origins Of Life in the Peter Harrison Planetarium.

Back at the Museum there's more exploring throughout the weekend with characters from the past, the secrets of navigation, hands-on activities and general mess-making. Explore Saturdays and Discover Sundays are educational fun although I wouldn't tell your child that - just say it's FUN. Oh, and that they might see a leopard. That usually works.

Have a great time....
