Feasts fit for Kings & Queens

Feasts fit for Kings & Queens

Day One: Afternoon

Greenwich Food Tour

Daily, 1.30pm (3 hours)

We all know that the Royal family enjoy a good nibble and a tipple to celebrate occasions so what better way than to get in on the act than with a Greenwich Food Tour. Your culinary-friendly guide will take you to places often missed by tourists (and even locals!) as you explore the foodie side of Greenwich. Of course, being Royalty is as much about mindfulness as it is about style. The tour includes the charming Greenwich Market where you’ll  sample dishes from all the corners of the earth and instantly feel connected to the local community while experiencing the buzz and excitement from all the stalls selling sustainable and feel-good gourmet delights.

After your tour, take some time to digest the iconic views at Greenwich Park, said to be the most historic of all of London’s Royal Parks. With a stunning view of Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs, and a rich history within its 183 acres, there is plenty to explore before dining out at one of the quirky bars or restaurants you’ve seen on your food tour earlier in the day. Be sure to check out The Trafalgar Tavern for big blasts of history and riverside views and The Old Brewery at the Old Royal Naval College, with one of the best beer gardens in South East London, featuring an expansive outdoor terrace. Or take your gourmet break to another level with London in the Sky, and enjoy fine-dining and cocktails while suspended 100ft in the air with breath-taking views of the capital.

Day Two: Morning

Cutty Sark

Opens 10am

Cutty Sark is the last remaining tea clipper and, in her day, was one of the fastest ships in the world. During the 19th century, clipper ships would compete with each other to see who could get the first crop of fresh tea from China to the UK and Cutty Sark was one of the main contenders, bringing almost 10 million pounds of tea back to the UK. Explore the magnificent ship before heading to The Cutty Sark Café, located on the lower ground deck of the ship underneath the gleaming copper hull. Serving deli combination sandwiches with classic British ingredients and cakes made fresh for you daily – we can’t think of anywhere better to enjoy elevenses!

Day Two: Afternoon

Make your way to Cutty Sark (for Maritime Greenwich) station and take the Docklands Light Railway (with its driverless trains) to Bank (20 minutes) to explore the City of London’s pubs and eateries. Pause on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral to admire your surroundings and have a little sing-song of ‘Feeding the birds’ from Mary Poppins as you make your way to the home of Whitley Neill Gin.

City of London Distillery Tour

2pm

Hidden down a staircase, in the shadow of St. Bride’s Church, you’ll find the City of London Distillery – the first, and still the only, gin distillery in the area and one of the few businesses allowed to use the livery of the City of London which you can find on every bottle. Enjoy a tour of the distillery and see their hard-working copper stills followed by a 4-flight gin tasting.

As you wander back, checking out some of the oldest pubs in the city is an absolute must. The Blackfriar is a triangular building right outside Blackfriars Underground station. It was built in 1875 on the site of an actual monastery and features beautiful mosaics, ornamental balconies and even a guardian black friar. One of the oldest pubs in the city and a fave of Charles Dickens and Mark Twain is Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, a grade II listed pub that was rebuilt after the Great Fire of London.

Stroll to Blackfriars station and hop on the Circle or District line just 3 stops to Westminster (4 minutes) before enjoying ‘the best night out in town’!

City Cruises Dinner Cruise on the river Thames

7.30pm, Westminster Pier

Wine, dine and dance on this great dinner cruise on the river Thames. See spectacular views and enjoy top hits sung by a live performer. Your evening begins the moment you step aboard and are handed a welcome glass of fizz. Alongside your delicious four course dinner, stunning views are on the menu too. See the inky-dark night along great vistas of the riverscape which give way to the spectacular lighting of Thames-side buildings and the Illuminated River project which is transforming the capital at night.

Disembark at the end of the night at Westminster Pier and either opt for the Underground and Docklands Light Railway back to Cutty Sark (for Maritime Greenwich), or, if you haven't had enough of the river, hop on an Uber Boat by Thames Clippers back to Greenwich Pier.
