Roof Works at the National Maritime Museum
From 11th March 2024, the central area under the glass roof of the National Maritime Museum (NMM) will be closed to members of the public, while the glazing in the roof is replaced. Regular visitors to the NMM will know this area as ‘Neptune Court’. The existing glass roof covering the central area is now 25 years old and requires a significant refurbishment to counter the increasingly frequent overheating of the space underneath.

The NMM is not closing. Only the central area located under the glass roof will be unavailable to the public during the refurbishment of the roof. The rest of the NMM (including popular galleries such as ‘Nelson, Navy, Nation’ and ‘Polar Worlds’) and other RMG sites will remain open as usual, throughout the project.

The refurbishment work is due to be completed in spring/summer 2025, and upon reopening the area will be known as ‘Ocean Court’.
